Indigo Children

August 29, 2007 1 comment

I came across this term on the Criminal Minds show yesterday & it got me interested & curious. So I looked it up & found this:

Indigo children is a term used within the New Age movement to refer to children who are alleged to possess paranormal attributes such as the ability to read minds.
The Indigo child concept was first publicized in the 1982 book “Understanding Your Life Through Color,” by Nancy Ann Tappe. Tappe, a self-proclaimed
synesthete and psychic, says she has the ability to see people’s auras, and began noticing in the late 70′s that many children were being born with “indigo” auras. Today, she estimates that 97 percent of children under ten and 70 percent of those age 15 to 25 are “Indigo.”[1]
The idea of Indigo children was popularized by the 1999 book The Indigo Children: The New Kids Have Arrived, written by the husband-and-wife team of Lee Carroll and Jan Tober.[2] Carroll insists that the concept was obtained via conversations with a “Master angelic energy” he calls Kryon. Tober has said that she and Carroll do not talk much about Kryon in interviews about their Indigo children books, because “the Indigo book is aimed at the mainstream public.”[3]

Beliefs:

The Indigo child movement believes that the children in question are born with an empathic connection to Earth and others’ thoughts. However, due to natural limits in infant communication, Indigo children’s supposed abilities (empathy, telepathy, extra-sensory perception and extra-normal perception) are suppressed by negative parental or societal influence. The Indigo child movement therefore encourages parents to support those children in whom can be seen traits which are often labeled as negative by mainstream authorities but as positive by the Indigo child.[citation needed]
Adherents believe that this new type of child has come forward for a reason; most often suggested is that they will improve the world in some way. The changes generally discussed involve bringing
peace, toppling corrupt institutions, and a shift from conventional medicine to a greater understanding of alternative treatment. Indigo children are said by proponents to be more in touch with something called the “Universal Truth,” and do not tolerate or understand behaviors or systems that are not in harmony with it.[citation needed]

Characteristics:

The following characteristics are said to identify Indigo children:
They come into the world with a feeling of entitlement, which is often reflected by their behavior.
Self-esteem is not a big issue; they often tell the parents “who they are.”
They have difficulty with authority and no explanation or choice.
Waiting in line is difficult for them.
They get frustrated with systems that are ritually oriented and do not require creative thought.
They often see better ways of doing things, and tend to be non-conforming.
They seem antisocial unless they are with their own kind.
They will not respond to such disciplines as appeal to
guilt.
They are not shy in letting it be known what they need.
Critics point out that these traits are not unique, and are observable in most children (see
below).
Other claims include psychic abilities; empathic, spirit communication; ‘multidimensional awareness’; immunity to diseases such as
HIV, and more. [4][5][6] None of these claims have been experimentally verified.

Scientific and critical interpretations:

Scientists point out that the Indigo movement lacks verifiable evidence to support its claims, and because of this, it is considered pseudoscience. Though some of the authors of Indigo literature have degrees in psychology, Indigo Child is not a recognized term in the field thereof.
Indigo literature frequently talks about “university studies” and “interested scientists,” but gives no actual citations. According to scientists such as
Russell Barkley, a research professor of psychiatry, have stated, “There’s no science behind it. There are no studies.”[7] Barkley has also expressed concern that labeling a disruptive child an “Indigo” may delay proper diagnosis and treatment that may help him or her.
Indigo children are often the offspring of New Age parents; exposed to New Age thinking, it would be unsurprising if the children possess a greater tendency to use New Age
language than earlier generations. Having been told that the vast majority of children are now Indigos, New Age parents in fear of suppressing this special generation may be encouraging antisocial behaviors. It has been observed that many of the traits of Indigo children could be more prosaically interpreted as simple arrogance and selfish individualism, and that children labeled as such may actually suffer from ADHD[8] or perhaps other disorders. Some have also voiced concern that teaching children that they are Indigo will encourage them to adopt sociopathic behaviors, such as a sense of human superiority, alienation, and a “bizarre” paranormal identity.[9]
In addition to these concerns, some critics feel that it is possible to use the traits assigned to Indigo children as an observation of social trends, rather than as a signifier of a new race or form of consciousness. One such trend is more and more children are viewing magical/mystical TV shows and media that use new-age interpretable language. Coupled with how children feed off the media in their own natural fantasy play, such mystical make-believe could be unintentionally falsely re-interpreted as signs of preternatural knowledge, maturity or “higher consciousness”.
An example of this emerged in a 2006 article in the
Dallas Observer which covered the Indigo Child phenomenon.[10] The reporter observed an eight-year-old boy named Dusk quizzed by a man on his “Indigo” status:
“Are you an indigo?” he asked Dusk. The boy looked at him shyly and nodded. “I’m an
avatar,” Dusk said. “I can recognize the four elements of earth, wind, water and fire. The next avatar won’t come for 100 years.” The man seemed impressed.
However, readers of the Dallas Observer wrote to inform the editor that Dusk may have been drawing on the
Nickelodeon children’s show Avatar: The Last Airbender. This highly rated television show features a twelve-year-old boy who is the reincarnation of the Avatar Spirit, has the power to manipulate (or “bend”) earth, wind, water and fire, and was once frozen in suspended animation for 100 years. These similarities were not noted within the article, and the editor of the Dallas Observer later admitted they were not aware of the possible connection until several readers brought it to their attention.[11]

Education:

Educators, generally, have not accepted the Indigo Child supposition. Some alternative educators have accepted the Indigo concept, and have related their mission to the needs of Indigo children

Commercialization:

There has been significant commercial value in book and video sales, donations, speaking engagements, and one-on-one counseling session fees to parents of “Indigo” children. In “Indigo: the color of money”, an article on Skepticreport.com, Lorie Anderson has pointed out the potential commercial value of the “Indigo” concept for James Twyman, author of the video documentary, The Indigo Evolution. Numerous other commercial websites offer indigo-child-themed goods for sale such as books and new-age healing devices as well as videos and other media

In fiction:

In 2003, a movie Indigo was released.
In the arcade-adventure computer game
Fahrenheit (also known as Indigo Prophecy), an Indigo child, Jade, is thought to be a prophet destined to bring some powerful truths into the world.
In the episode “The Unusual Suspect” of the television series
CSI, a 12-year-old girl named Hannah is said to be an Indigo child. She claims responsibility for a murder of which her brother has been accused.
A film released on March 23, 2007 by
New Line Cinema entitled The Last Mimzy featured two fictional children who develop powerful, magical abilities. The promotional website for the film [13]explains the concept of Indigo children briefly, tying the children featured in the film to this concept. However, the film is based on a 1943 short story Mimsy were the Borogoves by Lewis Padgett, which contained no hint of the Indigo Child theory. Rather, the story argues that there is an age beyond which children are too old to benefit from the toys sent back to their time from its future. The co-opting of the Indigo Child concept for the film’s promotion appears to be an example of shrewd marketing.

Him

August 24, 2007 3 comments

The other day I followed The Family to a wake of my father’s friend’s mum. She lives in the Eunos area there, close to the MRT station. As I was not that keen on sitting near the hall where the body laid & relatives & friends were drinking & gambling, I took my 2 monkeys over to the playground nearby to let them play.
Or more like to let my sis play while the bro was besotted with his new PSP. (yes SOMEONE got a newly bought PSP set…long story Loos)

So while I was sitting at the playground keeping them company, I saw a guy on a bicycle cycling by.
From 1st glance I found Him very familiar.
When I look harder I found out that I HAVE seen the man before.
He is the brother of another blogger whose blog I am quite a fan of.
It could only be Him because:

1) I know that her brother likes to cycle around, especially since the place where He works is closeby.

2) He‘s wearing the same grey skullcap that I have seen Him worn before in the blogger’s pictures of him.

3) The blogger’s family lives in Eunos, & I am IN EUNOS. (duh!)

4) Only He can look that good.

I thought when the Blogger gushed about the brother, it was just the overzealous view of an adoring younger sister, & even though I thought He does look cute from the photos I’ve seen of Him, I didn’t expect Him to be THAT hot.

He is not ‘WOW, HOLY MOWLY!’ hot, but there’s just something about Him that is so peaceful & calm that just makes Him really uber’ WOW. I daresay He‘s so handsome to me that He’ll easily whacks down opponents from the likes of Bollywood & Hollywood heroes.

I remember when I first caught sight of him all I could say was, ‘Subhanallah! Lawanya ciptaan Allah’

I’m not lying. Me, the normally under panic mode & hyper irritation would spout vulgarities without brake, was actually praising Allah for his beautiful creation.

For He is handsome. Very.

Dunno why, but just the sight of him makes me want to do good & work harder to be a better muslimah & all that jazz for the sake of Allah.

Odd isn’t it the effect that some people can have on you even though you have not met each other before in your whole entire life?

I remembered while in the cab that night on the way home, I had a silent conversation in my heart with Allah.
I asked him to grant me a husband as good as the man I just saw.
Even though he might not be the same, let him be just as pious, just as calm & patient, just as knowledgable, just as pleasant looking as Him.

I want someone who would be able to lead me to be a better person & tame my wild ways, not with force but with love & patience.
I’ve yet have a lot to learn.
This, from someone who learnt to pray by reading books & drawing up charts & pasting it to the wall to look & do in a bid to learn.

Yes, being fiercely independent helps when my stupidly shy part takes over my mind.
Weird, I know.

I told Loos about the encounter and about how I came to know about Him. I told her I know I sound like some psycho to know so much about some guy I like.
But that’s just me, the more enigmatic & quiet a guy is, the more I’m attracted to find out more.
She being the good friend that she is said, some guys would find my habit very flattering.

Yeah right.

But 1 thing she said that night stuck with me. She said that doesn’t mean that someone unperfect like me can’t or won’t end up with a man just as good as Him.
She also said that it’s much better to be shy than shameless when I told her how hopelessly shy I am with guys sometimes. I am not one who would make the 1st move on a guy. If I do ask a guy out (which was only once) then it’s as a friend. Nothing more.
She also said that if guys don’t see the goodness in me then THEY are idiots.
That line realy sticked with me.

I never really saw myself as someone better than another person. Yes, I might have thought it, but never believed it enough. If I think I am better, then I would be thankful for it, but I would never get it into my head too much coz’ once you start getting to big about yourself, karma would rear it’s ugly head just to plonk you back to ground zero.

I think all woman should be taught & told that they are special & that they shouldn’t be made to feel any less than any other women. Sadly this needs to be told ever since they are young. When a girl gets older, it gets harder to make them believe it.

I wonder sometimes why Allah made me meet Him that night.

I should blog about the other parts 3 & 4 of my birthday celebrations, but somehow am not in the mood anymore. You can go to my multiply page however if you want to.

I wana blog about a gift I received recently. Twas’ a gift from good old Nuts & Loos. It’s the book I am currently reading now “Better Single Than Sorry”.
Truthfully, I was quite skeptical about the book. But after reading the 1st few pages I changed my mind. It’s quite insightful I must say, but I am only in the 1st few pages so won’t comment much on it yet.
Let me finish it then I’ll give it my 2cents worth.

Just wanted to say thanks to Loos & Nuts, that’s all. :)

Birthday Celebration Part 1

August 16, 2007 2 comments

The 1st of my 3 Birthday celebrations started yesterday with the She-Boss treating me to lunch @ Marche’ Vivocity. Yes, it was my choice to go Marche’ coz’ I love the place & the last time I went there was when it was @ Heeren’s still so imagine how long that is.

It was a great place with nice cozy corners for seating though it is smaller than the old place @ Heeren’s.
Eventhough with the smaller area I don’t mind but what really got me was the fact that the food quality is not as good as it was before. The pasta was bland, the rosti was damn salty you can get a headache just by trying to finish it, the range of food was not as many as The Village’ (its this new restaurant that took over the compound that once was Marche’ @ Heeren’s. It has the same concept just different name.

Enough about the food quality & comparisons. Now on to the real deal… My Birthday treats & the pictures!

Note: when The bosses gives a treat, ALWAYS whack like nobody’s business & order ONLY the expensive stuff…heeehheeee..

Like I’ve said before, do not be fooled by what you see. This is only half of what we had.

The mandatory group pic. You just can’t run away from it. (photogenic jugak aku ni eh? heeeheeeee I can almost hear the groans of disgust from Loos & Fad..Haaahaahahahahahahaahahaha)

My She-Boss, aka Lau Pan Niang, aka The Person Treating Me, aka The newly appointed Assistant Sales Manager! Baru kena new appointment only face look so tired!

My chocolate Suprise! Damn super sinfully Chocalatey!!!!

Posing lah before the kek kena sembelih..

I really was not joking wen I said my wish was to get laid……. AFTER getting hitched lah! tsk tsk tsk..

Yes, One Happy Contented & bloatedly full (not to forget sleepy in the later part of the day) Woman I was yesterday. What to do, I strive on love & attention, like a plant when it gets enough water, sunlight & manure.

Book Review – The Men’s Guide to The Woman’s Bathroom

August 14, 2007 Leave a comment

I figured another way of being your friendly informational blog. Since I like to read so much, and since I read a new book almost every single month or so, I think I would provide free short book reviews on books that I have read! Great Idea eh???
Also, alternatively, you folks can inform ME on books that you have read that you think I might be interested to read! I won’t give those long winded chapter by chapter reviews with character psycho analysis or whatever shit. Just good ol’ simple reviews of my 2 cents worths & receptions. :)

It’s like, you scratch my back & I help scratch yours lah… *GRINS*

So, for my 1st review, I would start with the one I just recently ended. I would rate my my book with Scratches.

1 Scratch – Not even there
2 Scratch- Needs longer nails
3 Scratch- Itch relieved but still needs some more
4 Scratch- Yes! YEs! YES!!
5 Scratch- *BLISS* Scratch Relieved!!

The Men’s Guide to The Woman’s Bathroom

This book is definitely one of the best ones I have read this year. Unlike the common comedic romance books that are on the shelves, this one actually narrates actual true facts. Facts that we women doesn’t realise actually exists until it’s being said & written into a book that ironicaly enough is written for men.

I am quite a shallow bugger when it comes to books. You know that line “never judge a book by it’s cover” ? Well, I do. If it doesn’t look appealing to me by just looking at it, then chances are I won’t pick it up not even if it’s written by a well known writer.

This story deals with the character who was recently divorced & is looking to rekindle her life. She quits her job as a lawyer to become a writer. She has unresolved issues with the ex-husband who keeps using the painting that she is keeping as an excuse to keep in touch with her, at the same time preventing her from moving on. She manages to meet a cute guy, falls in love with him & at the same time, gets her writting going. The book that she is writting? Well it’s the same book as the title.

It’s quite ironic that this book turns out to be such a great read when it actual fact, the reason why I bought it was because it was going for only $10 @ Borders & because I have read other books before by the same publisher ‘Little black Dress’.

I give this book:

4 Scratchs- Yes! YEs! YES!!

New Look… New news

August 14, 2007 2 comments

How do you like my new look?

I know I’m like a few days late in asking the question, especially since the cange in template was made waaaay before today but still, I need to ask. :P

Never knew it could be so simple to change the look of the blog by just using a picture clip art thingey that I swiped from my friend’s folder.. heeeheeee

It’s just a matter of colour play & …… VOILA!

New cool Pastel Zen Look in minutes. *GRINS*

Remember I once wrote about my father’s friend’s son who looked quite hot (to me at least but it seems Loos doesn’t share the same sentiments) but he had the audacity not to look or even glance at me when he came over with the dad..??? ok, long story. But recent updates on the guy: it seems he is being hounded by group members from a rival gang who wants to bash him up. I mean like REAL group gangs. Remember last time, yonks ago there were a few gangs that were quite popular & “strong” in Spore like the “Salah Kau” & “Ang So Tong”… As you can see I am using simile (is that how you spell it?) & not the real names but then again the similes are so close you get the idea heh?

So anyways, it seems the guy is being hounded by them rival gangs who wants to Pow him reaaaaaal bad. I don’t know what the hell that idiot has done to make them stick a bounty on his head but then again, I’m sure it’s about something stupid.
You know lah how these gangs can be, look at them longer than a second & they would say you are staring.
See the colourful tatoos for longer than a second & they would accuse you of staring.
Wave at someone behind them & they would accuse you of scolding them.

Etc..

Etc…….

Etc………………………….

Quite stoopid reasons just so they can get their fix. Beating up people is their drug.

In the end, get themselves thrown into jail or remand for stabbing someone…. sometimes, wrongly!

What really gets me stumped is the fact that the most susceptible youths are the malays!

WHY????!??!?!?!?!

If any of you teachers are reading this (or even you Loos who aspires to be one……. erm, some day…… in the very far future :P ), please give me your 2 cents worth on this subject. (don;t have 2cents 1 cent also can lah..)

I’m asking the teachers coz’ I am somehow thinking it might have something to do with education somewhat. Problem is I don’t know where the connection lies. It’s just one of those things you know is there but you dunno where.

So there people, all *counting with fingers* , ah! All 3 of you? eh wrong, 2 of you…. (pathetic).
Give me your assumptions, guesses or facts. Treat it as an assignment. I’m sure teachers just LOVE assignments……….. giving them that is. :P
