Sometimes it’s good to blog. Apart from letting out what you have choked up inside you can also surf away to other’s blog and read what they have to say and what they are going thru. It would also teach you some lessons either about life, ethics, love or hate. On one of my blog surfing/hopping I stumbled upon a blogger’s take on an article by Yvonne Ridley. Some of you might be thinking Yvonne Who??? (that’s what I thought too at 1st) Well Yvonne Ridley was a journalist who converted into Islam after she was caught by the Talibans when she was going undercover in Afganistan. Yes, she WILLINGLY converted AFTER she was caught by the Talibans (read on her article tittled “How I came to love the Veil” ). As per her own confession, she was not hurt while she was their captive, instead they bargained with her that they would release her if she promises to read up about Islam and read the Koran. Now you and I all know how hard it is to keep a promise or how easily she could have just lied and said “yeah yeah, whatever” but just forget about it once she’s released. But, she kept her side of the bargain and read the Koran expecting to see something about being oppressed and man being superior and all that mumbo jumbo. Turns out she was pleasently suprised @ how diffrent Islam was compared to what is being hyped up about it by the western media. And 2 years after that fateful incident, she willingly converted into Islam and dons the Hijab. For me personally I see it as a beautiful real life story of how exquisitely beautiful my religion is and how I should strive to be a better muslim woman myself. God knows my solats all have ALOT of “MCs” mainly due to me being ultra lazy..yes, very miserably wretched I am, but I am thankful that @ least my resolution 2 years ago to do don the Hijab is still strong and permenent albeit VERY easily tergoda the iman sometimes by my occasional trips to the salon, the beach or Pulau Ubin… *blush*
BUT, I AM TRYING…still. I want to be a better muslimah and no matter how slow I am I will continue to try and strive against it all… It would be very much a BIG BONUS to actually end up with a husband who is more pious and learned in Islam then me so that he can lead me to be a better ummah. But until then, I can’t count on no one else but myself.
You should really read up about Yvonne Ridley and her articles. I’ve linked her up at the side bar so you can just snoozle over there and go straight to her website. Happy reading!
